Create a Desktop Shortcut to a Website

Using Firefox

You can use Firefox to create a shortcut on your computer's desktop to a page you've visited:
  1. Resize the Firefox window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Firefox window on the same screen.
  2. Click the icon on the left of the location bar, i.e. where the web address (URL) is shown.
  3. While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will be created.

You can also drag and drop items to the desktop from the Bookmarks menu and the Library window to create shortcuts.
If you open the shortcut you made, your default browser will open, and display the page for which you made the shortcut.

Using Internet Explorer

1. Navigate to the page for which you want to create a desktop shortcut.
2. Click "Favorites" in the top menu bar and select "Add to Favorites."
3. Give the favorite a name and click "Add."
4. Click the "Favorites" menu and hold the cursor over the favorite you just created.
5. Click the favorite, hold your click, drag the favorite over your desktop, and then release your click.
